Benjamin Franklin Mural: The Four Elements as described by Plato, Air, Fire, Water and Earth
Project Director:
Jose Luis GonzalezRobert Arenivar and I designed and painted 8 panels, 2 of each element: Earth, Air, Fire, and Water for the Benjamin Franklin Library in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles. We thought this theme very appropriate for the children that visit the library to study and be inspired by books and art.

This set of panels represent Earth, depicting the Gnomes as ugly men of dwarfish dimensions who worked their mines deep in the bowels of the earth.

This set of panels represents the element of Water.

This set of panels represent Fire: One depicting the salamander writhing furiously in the fire. In the other panel, the blacksmiths working beside a fire ball.

The four elements are a very important part of our lives and we cannot forget water, here, as great turbines are powered by water to generate electricity as needed throughout the entire world.
